Navigating the Dangers of "Tribalism"
The Conciliators Guild is pursuing an initiative to increase knowledge about the causes and dangers of "tribalism" - a strong identification with or loyalty to a particular cultural and social group. This will involve bringing together experts on this issue (social scientists, artists, and otherwise) with policy makers to investigate this gap in policy development, and begin a process of developing answers.
A greater understanding of this basic, yet volatile, aspect of our nature, will diminish the likelihood of ethnic, religious and ideological conflict, and increase the potential for pluralism and tolerance in societies.
The Conflict Resolution Olympics
This project is a competition to encourage professionals, as well as publics and youth, to develop creative solutions for ongoing conflicts. The initiative, for which we seek a sponsor, would involve a competition every four years to find new ideas to resolve difficult disputes. It would be open to anyone and, as well as cash prizes, will result in winners working with conflicted parties to help resolve difficulties.
Guild members believe that, by generating a great diversity of suggestions in this competitive way, it will increase the likelihood of different, feasible and practical solutions arising while creating a spirit of constructive and positive thinking towards conflict resolution globally. The public will then see that something constructive is being done.
